I'm
in a wheelchair & I sometimes go to the accessible bathroom & often
I find them all in use with persons changing their swimsuits. I believe
you have general locker rooms that are for people who are not disabled
for general use. Thank you!
Our
Response:
w
The
Special Needs Locker Rooms are designated for "special needs".
They also serve as family changing rooms. We encourage Dads
w/young daughters and Moms w/young sons to utilize these locker
rooms.
w We
hope all of our Members will be respectful and responsible when
using these rooms. However, we have found we can't always determine
what's someone's "special needs" are.

As
a long-time member of the Y, I've noticed that your child (baby)
swim class need(s) some guidelines. There should be an age development
rule that they should be able to walk. Very young baby should NOT
be in the strong chloring water. DO NOT keep a child in water when
they are afraid and crying. I've seen a parent spank a child for
crying. This is unacceptable. They should be told to take their child
home.
Our
Response:
w Thank
you for your astute observation and concern for our 'Y' children. Our
pool chemicals are checked numerous times daily and are kept within
safe guidelines.
w Our
staff is trained in Child Abust Prevention and are mandated reporters
of any suspected child abuse. The YMCA recommends waiting until
a child is 6 months of age before putting them in the water and
that is the earliest age at which we enroll children. Children
have been known to swim natrually at infancy.
w Even
though we report if we think a child has been or is being abused,
we cannot tell a parent at what age they can or cannot 'spank'
a child. That is their personal decision.
w Thank
you again for your concern in this matter.

Is
it possible for the loudspeaker (intercom) messages to be announced
at a lower volume? In the pool it's difficult to cover my ears. Could
a trial message be made & then recipients could say if they could
hear it?
Our
Response:
w Thanx
for the suggestion.
w We
have "turned down" the volume in the Therapy Pool.
w We
tested it and think it's better.
w Let
us know.

An
idea for raising money: Ask people who have monthly fees taken out
of their checking account to volunteer $X/month to your fundraising
causes. Might be able to direct their donation in their special interest's
direction.
Our
Response:
w Great
idea! We have added a line on our new Member application form that
asks the Member to consider making a monthly donation to the Strong
Kids Campaign via bank draft.
w Additionally,
we send a solicitation annually to educate our Members advising
how they may revise their bank draft to make a donation to the
Strong Kids Campaign.

Brad
is doing a super job of keeping the coffee filled when we gather
after class in the morning for coffee. He also makes sure supplies
are well stocked. He is very friendly and hospitable. Keep up the
good work, Brad!
Our
Response:
w Thanx
for the note!!
w We
are fortunate to have Brad as a member of our employee TEAM.
He really loves to interact with and serve all our Members.
w He
is great at making our Members become a part of the Y "FAMILY".

Today
we had 25 people in the 9:30 AM class in the warm water pool - which
is great! However, with that many people it is impossible to effectively
walk the length of the pool w/o running into someone. Or, (you) have
to stop because of a group of people visiting instead of exercising.
I love this class & am benefiting from it allot. But I am greatly
hindered by those wanting to visit. I would like to see the walking
changed to go across the pool which would give everyone more room
& they could still visit. Please call me.
Our
Response:
w NEW
PLAN!!!
w Effective
immediately, the 9:30a (only) Arthritis Class will walk the width
(rather than the length) of the Instructional/Therapy Pool. We
have asked the instructors to "encourage" everyone to "participate"
as it is an "instructed" class and it makes it difficult for
those walking when others are not following the "lead" of the
instructor.
w Please
let us know if it does not allow you to achieve the benefits
you seek.
w AND,
thanx for the suggestion; we've always "done it thataway" and
it appears there is a better way.
