If you have a question concerning the Greater Decatur YMCA we encourage you to ask! The staff and volunteers at the Y answer numerous questions every day. Some questions get asked more than once. That's why we created the Frequently Asked Questions page. This is just a few of the questions that pop-up on a regular basis.

What
is the Enhancement Fee?
The Enhancement Fee is the initial
fee that new members pay in their first year. The funds are set aside
for facility improvement, equipment upgrades, and enhancement of the
membership experience.
How do I bring a guest?
Guest Passes may be purchased for $13 for adults and $3 for
youth 17 years of age or under. A photo ID is required and the fee
may be applied to a new membership within 30 days. We do restrict
guest passed occasionally, so please check ahead of time to be sure
we are accepting guest.
Do I need a racquetball reservation?
No, but without a reservation, you are not guaranteed use of the court. Someone else may have a reservation. You may reserve a court for $3 or purchase a $10 punch card good for 10 court reservations.
What is the pool temperature?
The lap pool is kept about 83 degrees.
The therapy pool is kept at about 89 degrees.
What is a Wellness Center Orientation?
A Wellness Center Orientation is a free introduction to our fitness equipment. It is also an opportunity for our staff to help you tailor your workout to fit your needs, limitations, and goals.
What is Fitlinxx?
Fitlinxx is a computerized personal trainer that provides support to our members as they succeed in healthy living goals. Many people like Fitlinxx because it helps them with their range of motion, counting of reps, storing of weights lifted, and seat adjustments, however you do not have to utilize Fitlinxx.
What are the differences between a Fitness Coach and a Personal Trainer?
Both are employees of the YMCA and provide Free Wellness Center Orientations and are available to assist our members with their questions. YMCA Personal Trainers are Certified Personal Trainers from a nationally recognized certification organization and are skilled in designing specific exercise programs to fit an individual's needs.
What is a Fitness Assessment?
A fitness assessment is a service provided by a YMCA Personal Trainer to determine your current level of fitness and can be used to help establish your fitness goals.
Do I need to bring a towel?
Each member may pick up one towel at the Courtesy Desk. Additional towels are 25 cents. Hand towels are provided in the Wellness Center.
How old do children have to be to visit the Greater Decatur Y without an adult guardian?
Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied (under direct supervision) by an adult unless participating in a Y program. Children between 8 and 12 years of age must have an adult in the building unless participating in a Y program.
Where is there additional parking?
Additional parking is located ½ block east of the Greater Decatur Y in the DMH parking lot. Enter this lot the east side from Union St. or south from McKinley Ave. and park in the north end of the lot.
