Curriculum

Our Curriculum emphasizes the four key areas of development: cognitive, social, emotional, and physical through developmentally appropriate experiences.

Our program is a creative, child-centered readiness program designed to provide social, mental and emotional development as well as physical fitness for your child. We believe that children learn best in a positive environment that provides opportunities for experimentation. We allow the children to explore diverse art media, cooking, science, music, dramatic play, gym, swimming and creative movement. Each child will learn to be creative, confident thinkers.

Weekly themes and solid learning centers allow the children to make new discoveries and explore activities of interest such as art, music, drama, science, math and literacy. These areas will be taught through hands-on activities that will help your child learn through exploration and play.

Swim lessons are provided twice a week for preschool age children as well as monthly educational field trips. All children participate in Preschool P.E. weekly.

The YMCA Child Care and Preschool Center is not a substitute for a healthy, stimulating home life, but rather a supplement to it. Feel free to discuss your child’s progress or any concerns you might have with your child’s teacher. Parents and staff working together create a positive environment, which enables us to achieve a higher degree of success with your child. We have an open-door policy and encourage you to visit or volunteer at any time.

Our center maintains legal staff/child ratios and classroom capacities. DCFS has established these ratios, so children receive quality care while they are at school.

· Two-year-old Ratio and Room Capacity

  • One teacher to every eight children
  • 16 children to a room

· Three, four and five-year-old Ratio and Room Capacity

  • One teacher to every ten children
  • 20 children to a room
