Adult Tap ClassTap
In this class, you will learn the vocabulary skills and sounds for tap dancing. You will learn how to strengthen your ankles and use precise rhythmic patterns on the floor.

Parent Tot
This class is for parents and also the student. They will be learning the basic fundamentals of ballet with the help of the parent. Game, props and story time are also used in this class.

Kidz Dance
These classes are designed for young students who love dance and enjoy a structured class. Students will be introduced to the important concepts needed for general dance technique.

Ballet
These classes focus on discipline and technique. Barr exercises and floor work will be conducted. Students will be challenged to expand vocabulary skills. Mind and body will be strengthened in this class.

Lyrical
Lyrical is a fusion of ballet and jazz techniques. Dancers will be taught how to express emotion through the art of dance.

Jazz
In these classes, dancers will learn the fundamentals and technique of dance. Students will explore Classic, Broadway and Modern Jazz.

Hip-Hop
Hip-hop refers to dance styles primarily danced to hip-hop music, or what has evolved as a part of the hip-hop culture. This class will teach you the awareness of your body and will give you much freedom and room for personal interpretation.

Broadway/Musical Theater
This class will cover a wide area of artistic expression, including musical comedy, ensemble and solo dance works, vaudeville and the big-budget Broadway musicals of the middle century. You will act and dance in this class.

Spring Recital
Any child enrolled in the program through the end of the 2009 Spring session will be asked to perform with their class in our annual recital. More information will be provided to each class for its role in the recital in the spring.

Solos
Solos are offered for any style of dance you desire.

Voice Lessons (ages 6 and up)
Sarah Boline is a new vocal instructor at the Decatur Family YMCA. She has studied under vocal instructors such as Kathleen Bell, Dr. Jeanine Wagner and Dr. Hadi Gibbons.

Students will learn good vocal tone, proper breathing technique and learn music using methods such as Solfej all while having fun learning new and different music. Learn to sing Broadway, Pop, Jazz, Country, Classical and More!

Dance Attire

Ballet

w Ladies: Pink tights, black leotards, ballet skirts and split or no-sole ballet slippers. No tutus are permitted in class.
w Gentlemen: Black tights, white fitted shirts, split or no-sole ballet slippers and a dance belt.

Jazz and Lyrical

w Dancers may wear the same attire as is worn for ballet. Dancers may also wear form-fitting jazz pants or skirts with proper dance undergarments. Slip-on or tie-up jazz shoes are acceptable, but dance boots/sneakers are not. No street clothes permitted.

Hip-Hop

w Dancers may wear any clothing that allows their bodies to move freely. No jeans or khakis may be worn to class. Dance boots/sneakers are required.

Tap

w Dancers may wear any clothing that allows their bodies to move freely. Dancers must always have their ankles exposed during class.
