Of course, it’s not a WSOYMCA Workout without a signature ‘theme’. I tell you, I have to applaud Molly for all of her hard work not only with coming up with the workouts – but I’m sure having to think of a theme twice a week for 12 weeks can also be a challenge in itself!

Yesterday was the day we had all been waiting for since the challenge started. Well, I guess I can’t speak for the entire group – but I know yesterday was kind of like Christmas morning for me. The new Training Studio is finally open for business! Which means, our group was the very FIRST class to train in this state of the art studio.

It was surreal – walking in and seeing all of this new, raw equipment. Equipment like: rope pulls, heavy bags, a variety of medicine balls, kettlebells, TRX suspensions – all at our fingertips. So naturally, I wondered what Molly had in store for us. Especially since this she had access to all of this new, ‘fun’ equipment.

Although I was quite nervous on just what to expect, the workout itself wasn’t terrible. And by terrible I mean it could have been much worse. We could have been doing to workout, outside, in this insane heat wave we are having in September. So, I guess we got lucky there!

The workout was a circuit. 45 seconds of work, 10 seconds of rest going through each exercise twice before moving onto the next station. Each exercise focused on a specific area. Squats, Shoulders, Chest, Abs, Arms – the perfect SLAP (Squat, Lunge, Ab, Push/Pull) exercise. So, overall – it was a great total body workout.

I got to partner up this time with the Y’s CEO – Matt Whitehead. You might notice him in our videos as the guy who always looks as though he’s on the brink of death by the end of every workout. But honestly, he was a great motivator. He’s fast, rarely gives up, and really makes you push yourself just trying to keep up with him. Although – if I could give him one piece of advice it would be to work on his pace. Poor guy goes all out in the first round without realizing that he still need to sustain enough energy to last another 2 rounds. But, I think that’s just a guy thing.

Matt and I worked our way through kettlebell figure 8s, medicine ball toss overs with a squat, TRX chest presses, heavy bag shoulder work and then, something new to the challenge, the rope pull. Oh, that darn rope pull. A new piece of equipment to the studio – this sucker is hard. Like, really hard. While using the machine, I realized that I had muscles I didn’t even know existed. It’s supposed to mimic a much easier, stable way to ‘climbing a rope’ – but let me tell you, there’s NOTHING easy about this machine. After 45 seconds, your muscles are crying, you feel as though your arms will fall off and a good amount of exhaustion will set in. But man! Does it work! I can feel those pulls this morning.

Naturally, there was a little competitive talk between Matt and I prior to this set as to who could pull the fastest. So, I think that’s where we messed up. We killed ourselves the first set trying to see who could go the fastest – that by the end of the workout, we could barely pull the rope! (I think I was the winner at pulling the rope the fastest, but you can decide for yourself by watching the video).

Folks, this Training Studio is no joke! It’s raw, cutting edge and is designed to kick your current fitness routine up a notch. Classes for this room start October 16th – and word has it, our very own Molly will be teaching a noon class that is designed just like the WSOYMCA Challenge workouts. Now, you can experience this first hand. Looking forward to Wednesday – we’ll be back in the studio once again for another round. Excited to see what Molly brings to the table.
